Wow! Tremendous!
Fantastic!
Those are only a few of the words used to express how wonderful the HAPA Concert was on Sunday evening October 19. If you weren't here you missed the event of the year. The gates opened at 2:00 PM and several hundred people filed in to enjoy the music, food and games. From 2:00 until 5:00 everyone enjoyed the food booths and games. Students took turns in the dunking booth and even Miss Hilda took the opportunity to get wet. At 3:30 the program began with music and hula provided by the students and parents of Windward Adventist School. And then at 5:00 PM HAPA took the stage. Barry Flanagan and Nathan Aweau have been call by the New York Times, "the most successful Hawaiian music troupe in recent history." Beyond their music they are just terrific people. After the concert they stayed around to sign CDs and DVDs and talk with anyone that wanted to meet them. They were both presented with plaques thanking them for their participation in Windward's fundraiser. If you were here or even if you weren't, click on the photo below to view pictures of the best Fall Festival ever.

Back To School Night
 |
| Parents waiting for the start of the program |
On Tuesday night, August 26, parents and students returned to Windward Adventist School for the annual Back To School Night. The evening consisted of general information about the school program, important announcements, and terrific entertainment provided by the students.
One of the most important presentations was the preliminary results of the Cognitive Genesis Study being conducted by La Sierra University. Over the past two years the University has studied the results of more than 35,000 students taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and the CogAT tests. They are now able to conclude and show that students in Seventh-day Adventist Schools score on the average higher than students in public, private, and parochial schools on all areas of the tests. This was shown to be true regardless of the size of the school or number of students in the classroom.
After the general session the parents were encouraged to visit the classrooms and talk with their children's teachers. All in all it was a wonderful time to learn about the educational program at WAS and to socialize with the other parents. Everyone seemed to agree that we were off to a great start for the 2008-2009 school year.

First Day Of School
August 18, marked the beginning of a new school year. Parents and students filled the campus with school sights and sounds. There were new backpacks, new hair styles, new friends, and lots of stories to tell about summer adventures. Introductions were made, and books were passed out. The first day was filled with excitement and wonder for the new Kindergarten class and with a feeling of anticipation for the 8th graders, who were already planning their 8th grade trip and graduation in their minds.

PRAYER WALK
This year more than 50 parents, teachers and students attended the annual Prayer Walk for Windward Adventist School. We were very pleased that Pastor Eddie General from the Kaneohe Seventh-day Adventist Church was willing to lead out in our activities. Entering each area of the campus a scripture was read and a special prayer offered for the students and teachers that would occupy that particular classroom for the year. It was especially gratifying to watch the students participate by reading the scriptures and standing with their teachers for the prayers that were being offered on their behalf.
